Walnut Ink Uses

Writer's picture: Alicia PicardAlicia Picard

Have you ever used magical ink before? My journey into plant pigments actually started with ink, and its been an amazing addition to both my artwork and my magickal practice.

You see, each plant has its own energy, and its own correspondence to an intention. When you make an ink from a plant you are boiling down the matter until you are left with a concentrated pigment, which you then turn into ink. This applies to the energies of that plant as well, so when you use the inks with that intention in mind the energy is amplified greatly.

Walnut ink is the first ink that I am excited to introduce you all to! This ink has a gorgeous rich brown color that varies from a deep ash to a lighter reddish brown. Walnut corresponds to Jupiter or the sun, and with both Earth and Fire elements. This ink (and walnuts in general) are great for spells and journaling surrounding transitions and transformation, growth and fertility, as well as for manifestation and wishes.

Try this: Grab a dip pen, walnut ink and your journal. Begin writing a journal entry about the perfect day of your dream life. What would you spend your time doing? Where would you be? Would you own your own business, or live off grid, or work for your dream company? What food would you eat, and who would you spend your time with? Write it all down in great detail as if you really lived it. Revisit this entry as you make your way to your dream life and see how much of it you have manifested!

Or you could: Grab a paintbrush, walnut ink and some watercolor paper.

Begin painting a tree starting with its strong trunk. Is it a tall straight tree like a pine? Or a curly brambly bonsai? Think of how trees need to be both strong as well as flexible in order to flow with the unpredictable winds. The trunk wasn't always as thick and strong as it is now, though. It grows ring by ring through the years.

Next paint the roots. The roots of trees branch out farther than we know, connecting them to other trees and communicating with them. The roots hold the tree firmly in place while bringing it nutrients from the rich soil its surrounded by.

Begin building up branches, painting your tree as tall as you see fit. The tree climbs and reaches to the sky with no care for comparison with other plant life, with no worry for if it can handle the heights it climbs to.

Add leaves if you want, picturing the energy of the sun transforming into nutrients for the tree, giving it life to grow even further. Or your tree can be a winter tree, slumbering and resting with ease, no stress about what will happen when spring arrives.

What does your tree look like?

How would you use walnut ink? Let me know in the comments!
